The history of Improv (Improvisation) stretches back centuries, perhaps to the beginning of time. More formally, Improv can be traced to many different improv styles. Recent history traces Improv to the Commedia Dell’Arte (circa 1600’s), which was popular throughout europe for almost 200 years, when groups (or troupes) of performers would travel from town to town. Recently, it has been reinvigorated by two people, namely Keith Johnstone and Viola Spolin, both of which came up with versions of the Improv Games.
One recently interesting Documentary “The World According to Keith” takes a look at Keith Johnstone’s world of improv.

Impro Theatre-formerly LA Theatresports. Currently performing Jane Austen UnScripted, Shakespeare UnScripted, Dickens UnScripted, Chekhov UnScripted, Sondheim UnScripted, Tennessee Williams UnScripted and coming this fall LA Noir UnScripted. In the past we have performed Theatresports, Micetro, Gorilla Theatre, Lifegame, Moral Kombat, Triple Play, Cattle Call and The Hell Show. We have also taught and performed around the world.
